Deskrizzjoni tal-Organizzazzjoni

"Sympraxi – Partnership for Gender Issues” is a non-profit organization, founded in 2010 after replacing its predecessor organization known as "Partnership against homophobia" who was existed
since 2000. The organization is based in Thessaloniki and its activities revolve around the topics of gender and sexual orientation. “Sympraxi” focuses on parameters that suspend or restrain institutionally the rights in sexual expression and on parameters that limit the social functions of genders.

The activities of the organization aims at:
– Advancing Fine Arts (including cinema) and Human Sciences, as far as these are related with sexual orientation and gender behavior.
– Promoting desires, needs, requests and rights, which are related to sexual orientation and the gender of humans and social categories.
– Developing human values of substantial political equality of people in issues of freedom of expression of thought and feelings, especially of those, which are related to love, sexuality and gender.

The main annual action of “Sympraxi” is the “Thessaloniki International LGBTIQ Film Festival”, in cooperation with the “International Thessaloniki Film Festival” which is organized since 1999.

The Festival aims to
- Get us in touch with the international LGBTΙQ cinema and the ideas and subjects on which each
film focuses.
-To bring together all the parts concerned with the LGBTΙQ cinema and issues.
- Raise awareness about human rights and freedom of expression

"Sympraxi" is also active in the local society by taking part in many cultural or socially oriented activities taking place in Thessaloniki, namely the Thessaloniki Pride Festival, and is also member of the "Thess-Diktio" a network consisting of many civil society NGOs in Thessaloniki. "Sympraxi"s headquarters are accommodated in a space together with many other big organzations in Thessaloniki, like ANTIGONE, ΝΑΟΜΙ, UNESCO YOUTH Club, as well as in the same building is the offices of "Oikologiki Kinisi" and Médicis sans Frontières.
