SKUHNA is a social enterprise. It was developed by the NGO Institute for Global Learning and Projects Development (Zavod Global) in 2012 via a project supported by the European Social Fund and Slovenian Ministry of Labor, Family and Social Affairs. Skuhna was successfully registered as an independent legal entity in 2016. The reason for the development of our social enterprise is the awareness of the problems faced by migrants in the Slovenian environment, especially in the field of social integration and the labor market. Many migrants we came across, however, have the power and excellent knowledge in the field of culture and cuisine. On the other hand many members of the majority Slovenian population have an interest in the cuisine and cultures of the Global South. This was the point at which our idea developed - migrants offer their cultures and cuisine in the marketplace empowering themselves to become agents in the co-creation of a more tolerant society, while enhancing their own economic security. We have designed a wide range of activities. Some are more market oriented (cooking, catering and cooking workshops by migrants) and others are more socially oriented, such as debate nights, drumming courses, various intercultural workshops for children, movie nights , linguistic gatherings, etc. Skuhna currently employs 4 permanent staff members, two people through projects by the Employment Bureau of Slovenia. We engage others on a contractual basis and host three active European Volunteer Service volunteers. Two persons in our team are born in Slovenia, all the rest are migrants. Movit projects were introduced to us through the Voluntariat Institute, when they were a partner in the Skuhna project from 2012 to 2015.
In the meantime, we actively involved Slovenian and EVS volunteers who greatly influenced Skuhna's success story. Teja Kuk, who came up with the Skuhna idea, also did her EVS practice in Spain and is fully acquainted with the conditions and manner of work of the volunteer teaching service. As mentioned above, Skuhna was developed under the auspices of Zavod Global, which has been hosting 1 to 3 volunteers every year since 2013 through the Movit Organization. All employees and contributors are familiar with the role, responsibilities and rights of volunteers. Based on our experience, we have come up with a division of roles where we have employees who individually take on certain roles that enable quality volunteer hosting. In 2019, we attended some trainings in organized volunteer management and began developing volunteer hosting standards. In 2019, we also attended two Movit trainings where we were introduced to the changes brought about by the new program. Skuhna is more than "just a restaurant". It is a place and a group of people who, through concrete activities, are committed to cocreating a solidarity based society. At the launch of ESE programs, new project ideas based on solidarity in our society have become entrenched. In this way we will cooperate with Brezovica kindergartens and the NDP-TOZD (an organisation that works on eco gardening). We have been cooperating with them for many years and intend to empower them through the new projects.

- The Skuhna Team has been hosting EVS volunteers since 2011.
- The Skuhna Team has successfully implemented the Youth in Action projects entitled "Firsthand on Interculturalism"
- Due to their participation in Movit seminars, at which ESE programs were presented and our experience, we are well acquainted with the goals and objectives of ESE projects.
- We habour excellent relations with various organizations (especially NGOs), which gives us the power to execute good solidarity projects that also affect the wider society.
- We are an organisation with technical capacity to carry out projects with a wider reach.
- The idea leader of the planned new ESE projects is Teja Kuk, who has many years of experience in participating and executing Movit programs
- As a team we are used to project work and are well aware of the obligations it brings with it.
Skuhna's main activities are focused on the implementation of activities in our society that enable a decent life for migrants and influence the creation of a solidarity society that welcomes people of diverse cultures.
