Youth Culture House No. 2 in Piekary Śląskie is a place with almost 80 years of tradition, where children and teenagers as well as seniors spend their free time and develop their passions and talents. We provide non-formal education through artistic activities (painting, dance, music, handicraft, modeling), English language learning, theatre and sports activities and KOMKE Youth Club for international projects and youth exchanges. During the holiday period we organize holidays for children and teenagers - holiday workshops, half-camps and trips. We have a garden with a grass pitch and a petanqe pitch. The garden was created as part of the Civic Budget written by young people. It is a place to spend time and meet with the residents. We are currently planning to prepare a summer cinema project in the garden. Scout meetings are also held in our facility. Our buildings are the oldest in the city, but we have a very well prepared place to conduct classes, as well as artistic, musical and sports equipment and committed employees - teachers and trainees (11 persons). Our facility is vibrant with life and hosts about 600 participants of various activities per week. Classes conducted at MDK 2 are free of charge for participants, we are the budget unit of the City of Piekary Śląskie.
PROPOSED KEY ACTIVITIES FOR VOLUNTEERS: Extra-curricular activities for children and youth - the possibility of observing and conducting extra-curricular activities for children and youth together with teachers/ instructors, carried out according to the schedule of MDK 2. Also the possibility of proposing one's own ideas for activities and introducing them to the schedule (always accompanied by a teacher/ instructor). The schedule of classes conducted in MDK 2 is attached. Classes are always held in the afternoon. It would certainly be interesting to have language classes--conversations with volunteers to learn their language in our community.
Activities for seniors - an opportunity to get involved in activities for seniors. Participating together with them in classes, accompanying them and offering them their ideas. Seniors are involved in art classes, gymnastics, dance and petanque.
KOMKE Youth Club - support for the activities of the youth club, meetings with young people (age 13-19), planning and undertaking joint activities for the local community. Preparation of projects: Erasmus+ - youth exchanges, workshops, the Civic Budget project, meetings with residents, visits to bakery schools and presenting together with club members from volunteer countries, their culture and customs (young people in the KOMKE club come from various schools in Piekary Śląskie and nearby cities of the Metropolis).
Events and occasional activities - MDK 2 is the organizer of many events for the local community, including the Municipal Art Festival of Children and Youth, the Municipal Eliminations of the National Recitation Competition, the New Year's Concert, the KALWARYSKIE IMPRESSIONS Painting Plein-Air, Handicraft, Modeling and Art Contests, Municipal Games for Sustainable Development. It is also an opportunity for volunteers to get involved in the organization and service in various forms: preparing office matters related to events (posters, invitations, documentation) or organizing the events themselves (technical service, running) or documenting: photographing, filming.
Cooperation of MDK 2 with primary and secondary schools, as well as community centres, the Municipal Public Library and its branches. The workshops are conducted in support of education in these institutions - the opportunity to present the culture of their countries and information about Europe and volunteering in the whole bakery community as part of the tasks of our institution.
We also run a website and a profile in social media - it is also a place where volunteers can join in and together with us create factual materials (photos, films), descriptions and publish information about the activities of the facility. We also cooperate with the City Promotion Department and Radio Piekary - our local radio station.
