“IES La Murta” is a state secondary education high school located in Alzira, in La Ribera Alta, only 30 km away from Valencia, in Spain. Alzira has a population of 44.352 inhabitants. Two languages are spoken here: Valencian and Spanish.
“IES La Murta” has got 586 students between 12 and 18 years old. The lessons offered in this state high school are:
- ESO (4 years of Compulsory Secondary Education).
- Bachillerato in Humanities and Social Sciences (2 years of Non-Compulsory Education before starting university).
- Bachillerato in Health Sciences and Technology (2 years of Non-Compulsory Education before starting university).
- Basic Vocational Training in Administrative Management (2 years long for students at the risk of social exclusion).
There are 21 groups of ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education), 5 groups of Bachillerato and 2 groups of Basic Vocational Studies.
Our students come from four different primary schools:
- CEIP Tirant Lo Blanc in Alzira.
- CEIP Luis Vives in Alzira.
- CEIP Alborxí in Alzira.
- CEIP Santa Maria de Aguas Vivas located in La Barraca de Aguas Vivas, a small village near Alzira.
Classes start at 8 am and finish at 3.15pm.
Our high school has room for 600 students and 77 teachers.
Migrants are approximately 15% of the population in our high school. They are mainly from Morocco and Romania.
A Multilingual Education Programme will be implemented next academic year in all educational levels and courses.
Our high school is democratic, inclusive and non-denominational. Our mission is to educate, train, lead and prove our students in a collaborative and motivating environment as defined in the objectives and purposes of the educational curriculum in the different academic levels and the values and identifying facts of our high school.
Our educational project establishes our basic principles, values, proceedings and plans. And they are as follows:
- Commitment to peace culture through solidarity, individual and team rights and tolerance among all members of the school community.
- Promoting equity participation and avoiding exclusion in order to get closer to social cohesion. Multicultural respect and environmental protection are present in our daily routine.
- Exercising responsibility among all the members and improving a culture of effort and hard work.
“IES La Murta” has the mission and responsibility that all our students grow as responsible and competent citizens, together with a critical spirit and capable of contributing to the developable process in our society next to freedom, equality, solidarity, environmental respect, multicultural diversity and difference.
In view of all the above reasons, our high school has decided to participate in this project as we believe that we assume the European principles, values and attitudes in order to carry out this project in an effective, active and positive way whose purpose is to promote youth inclusion in our society and their active role in the European implementation.

Moreover, we are absolutely convinced of bringing together cultural diversity, respect, equality and solidarity in Europe and all over the world. We expect that volunteering get close to all educational experiences in a formal and non-formal way of learning in order to promote their integration in our society and in the local community as a means of establishing new relationships and exchange of best practices between them.
