The municipality of Liminka was founded in 1477 and today has a population of about 10,200. Liminka is known for its nature, which is one of the most important staging points for migratory birds. Liminka offers great outdoor activities and activities in nature. One of the most important strategic development areas in the municipality of Liminga is multiculturalism and internationalization. Liminka is young people municipality as 42% of inhabitant are under 19 years old and young people are seen vital for the municipality. The organisation aims to create and develop opportunities for the youth to express and implement their needs. Youth work in the area aims for preventing social exclusion and increasing youth’s possibilities to influence and participate. Youth work faces challenges that have everyday impact: improving employment and creating versatile chances for hobbies. The role of the organisation is to educate, guide and support young people.
Our working methods emphasise the community, the networking and the participation in our activities.
In our municipality we have two youth houses which offer for young people safe place to spend time with friends in a non-formal enviroment.
Liminga's cultural services support and develop the community's cultural activities and events. Cultural work is carried out in co-operation with organizations, communities, cultural operators, schools and educational institutions in the region. Cultural activities carry out the tasks prescribed by law, ie create conditions for cultural activities; enables the pursuit and practice of culture and the arts and supports local cultural actors.
