The Wohnungsgenossenschaft Sieben Linden eG is part of the Sieben Linden ecovillage, located in the state of Saxony-Anhalt in northern Germany. Its primary aim is to provide ecological and affordable housing for its members while promoting sustainability and community living. The goal of the cooperative is to operate cost-covering and not profit-oriented. Our main activities include the construction, management, and maintenance of residential properties, with an emphasis on energy-efficient buildings and renewable energy use. Target groups include individuals and families committed to sustainable living and contributing to the ecovillage community. Through our work, we strive to create a model for cooperative housing that can inspire other communities to adopt similar approaches to affordable, sustainable living.
A strong focus is on all aspects of ecological housing and our organisation has been instrumental in the process of legalizing straw bales as a building material. Our main building materials include wood, straw and clay and we are always in search of ecologically sound solutions at an affordable cost. Our houses are heated with renewable energy, have a passive solar design, solar hot water/heating and provide healthy living spaces.
