Solidarity… Yes We Can! is a flexible, long-term European Solidarity Corps project based in Arrouquelas, a rural Portuguese village about one hour from Lisbon. Volunteers take part in a rotating programme designed to prevent routine, provide new challenges and encourage creativity, initiative and the development of personal projects. Activities include supporting children, older people, people with disabilities or reduced mobility, environmental and food initiatives, forest surveillance, animal shelters, community development, youth association management and international mobility projects. By living and volunteering within the community, participants discover Portuguese culture, develop new skills and gain valuable personal and professional experience. As Arrouquelas has a largely ageing population, the project also promotes meaningful intergenerational interaction, strengthens solidarity and brings new ideas, cultures and energy to local life.

Volunteers live together in a fully equipped house in Arrouquelas, encouraging close interaction with the local community. It has five double bedrooms, three bathrooms, internet, shared areas, a small pool and a farm with plants and domestic animals. Some meals are provided at the workplaces; others are prepared at home using a food allowance. As public transport is limited, H2O organises local mobility. A car may be used under specific rules. Profil tal-parteċipant
We are looking for motivated, responsible and open-minded young people who are genuinely interested in social and community work. Participants should be ready to take initiative, assume responsibilities and actively contribute to the planning and implementation of activities. We value creativity, flexibility, independence, cooperation and a willingness to turn personal ideas into meaningful projects for the community.
Volunteers must be prepared to work as part of an international and intercultural team, respecting different cultures, backgrounds, identities, opinions and ways of living. Good communication, patience, empathy and the ability to solve everyday challenges together are essential.
Participants should also be prepared to live in Arrouquelas, a small rural village located about one hour from Lisbon. Although it is relatively close to the capital, the village faces several challenges linked to rurality, such as limited public transport, fewer services and fewer leisure opportunities. Volunteers should understand this reality and be willing to adapt to a quieter lifestyle, integrate into the local community and create their own activities.
At H2O, all board members are volunteers. Our organisation is an open space for new ideas, creativity and participation. Volunteers are encouraged to learn by doing, develop their own initiatives, work with different community groups and contribute positively to local life. A respectful attitude towards animals and an interest in environmental, social and intergenerational activities are also important.
