C.2 How many countries can I visit?

You can travel to as many eligible countries as you want.

However, the number of travelling days is limited; e.g. one can be abroad for up to one month but within this one month not more than a set number of travel days can be used for actual travelling (e.g. on a train).

More information can be found in the questions below. The external contractor will also give more information if your application is successful and you plan your travel.

B.15 I am on the reserve list, what are my chances of being offered a travel pass?

This depends on three factors:

  • how you have answered the quiz;
  • how many participants do not confirm or cancel their participation (participants on the reserve list are offered travel passes that are unused by selected participants);
  • the amount of travel passes that are awarded in your country of residence, or citizenship where applicable.

The European Commission and EACEA may award travel passes and discount cards to applicants placed on the reserve list at any moment up to complete use of available funds.

B.10 I am awarded a travel pass and a discount card but I cannot go. Can my friend(s) go without me? Can I transfer the travel pass to someone else?

If you have been awarded for a travel pass and your plans have changed, all you can do is withdraw your participation (see rule B.9) as you cannot transfer your travel pass to one of your friends. Furthermore, each travel pass is linked to an individual person, it cannot be changed or transferred to another person.

B.9 What if my application is successful and I want to withdraw my participation?

All you have to do is to contact via the Help Centre with your application code the contractor who is designated by EACEA to arrange the travel passes. This must be done before booking your travel pass via the booking form. Your pass will be given to someone on the reserve list. The way to contact the contractor will be communicated to you if you are awarded a travel pass.

B.8 What if I indicated that I would like to travel alone and later on would like to form a group with my friends?

All participants are potential group leaders. As an applicant, you can add up to 4 friends who match the eligibility criteria of DiscoverEU even if you have indicated in the application form that you want to travel alone. In order to enable your friends to join your application, you will have to provide them with your application code that you will receive via email. They will have to apply during the application period and be eligible to participate (see Rules section 2. 'Eligible applicants').
